It
is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you on this presentation
of the fourth annual “WeBeat, St. James Live” Festival.
Each
year the St. James Community Improvement Committee (CIC) strives
to improve this event in order to make it more appealing to
not only local but international audiences. With the recent
introduction of our Festival website, which can be found at
www.webeat.org,
it is our hope that our efforts to reach global communities
will be achieved and in the process succeed in promoting St.
James as a tourist destination and “Webeat” as a premier event.
It
is again a pleasure to have The Mayor of Port of Spain, Councillor
Murchison Brown as the patron of the festival
Webeat
2004 offers patrons nine days of activity that includes eleven
events featuring over six hundred performing artistes. These
events are intended to educate, as well as entertain those in
attendance. I trust you will enjoy to the fullest as you join
with us in this showcase of our history, culture, people and
culinary delights.
This
year’s honouree is Mr. Mohammed “Hamdo” Emamali, a resident
of our community who has made a sterling contribution to the
development of St. James, especially in the area of the Hosay
observances. The St. James CIC welcomes him, as he takes his
place alongside our other honoured residents.
I
wish to thank the Ministry of Community Development, Culture
& Gendre Affairs, the Tourism and Industrial Development
Company (TIDCO), our protective services and our generous sponsors
who have stuck with us through the years as we seek to develop
“WeBeat” into a national, regional and international product.
I also wish to acknowledge the hard working members of the St.
James CIC whose collective intent is to turn our dream for this
event into a reality, despite whatever obstacles we may have
to face.
Welcome,
once again, and may you enjoy the delights on offer at WeBeat
St. James Live Festival 2004.
Earl Crosby
President, St. James CIC.
